Company History
J.J. White Incorporated has a tradition of excellence in the Mid-Atlantic construction industry that dates back to its founding in 1920 as a mechanical contractor. Since those early days, J.J. White has evolved into a single-source, multi-trade contractor with experience in a wide range of disciplines.
1926
Involved with the construction of the Sesquicentennial Hall in Fairmount Park, now known as Memorial Hall.
1933
Constructed the first Houdry Fixed Bed Catalytic Cracking Unit.
circa 1936
Invented the Anti-Fire, Anti-Freeze Valve, which saved hundreds of firefighters' lives.
1955
Participated in the construction of the Walt Whitman Bridge.
1971
Completed Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) installation for Veteran's Stadium.
1972
Completed the HVAC installation for the new Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The first of its kind in the world with units dedicated to pediatric patients.
1975
Completed the first new home, since Pennsylvania Statehouse, for our Nation's symbol. The Liberty Bell. Moved The Bell into the new Pavilion on December 31, 1975 to mark the start of our Nation's Bicentennial Celebration.
1978
Completed the 500,000 square foot addition to the Philadelphia Convention Center, making it the largest of its kind in the country and especially suitable for the Flower and Boat Shows.
1984
Completed the Divine Providence Village, a residential care living facility in a cottage setting, for handicapped young adults. A forerunner for long term facilities.
1988
Completed the new addition to Edison High School, the first major school in Philadelphia in 30 years. 333,000 square feet on a fully developed 27-acre site.
1992
With peak employment of 1600 construction workers, J.J. White became the largest contracting employer in the Mid-Atlantic region.
1996
Constructed our own Class 10,000 Orbital Sanitary Fabrication Facility for use with parenteral (injectable) drugs.
1997
Constructed Cooper University Hospital/Medical Center's new Pediatric Hospital, South Jersey's first.
1998
Constructed St. Christopher's Hospital for Children's first satellite Medical Office Building.
2000
Became the largest independently owned HVAC/Services Facilities Operation Contractor in the Mid-Atlantic region.
2002
Received the prestigious Penn Safe Award. J.J. White was recognized as having the best safety program and record in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
2003
Completed work on the site of the Irish Memorial at Penn's Landing.
2005
Achieved milestone in safety: over two million man-hours with zero OSHA recordables.
