J.J. White Helps LaSalle University

LaSalle University Special Vietnam Collection of Art and Artifacts, Philadelphia, PA

Situation

LaSalle University houses a special collection of artifacts from the Vietnam War era in its Connelly Library, including about 9,000 books of fiction and poetry, 600 non-print items, and more than 600 films and videos. This section of the library was served by an antiquated HVAC system with no temperature or humidification control.

Challenges

The fragile nature of many of the collection’s artifacts requires that they be housed in a stable environment with proper temperature and humidity control. Without this stability, these pieces may deteriorate rapidly. J.J. White had to install a system that allowed for these critical features.

Solutions

J.J. White installed a three-ton Liebert computer room split system that gives the library the needed temperature and humidity control.

Results

The new HVAC system created a controlled environment that will allow the preservation of these artifacts that chronicle a crucial point in our nation’s history. A minimum investment for LaSalle resulted in maximum protection for a rare collection.
