Situation
Neither the Rowan University’s in-house facilities group, nor the current contractor, had the experience or the equipment to repair a leak on Bond Strand fiberglass piping.
Challenges
This 8" piping line supplied heat to two dorms on campus, and the leak took place on a Friday. A solution was needed quickly to restore heat to the dorms.
Solutions
Upon receiving an Emergency Service Call, a team was dispatched to resolve the leak. The team consisted of two steamfitters, two laborers, and one operating engineer, who brought with them a truck carrying a backhoe and hand tools. Many HVAC contractors cannot supply the necessary manpower or gear as quickly as J.J. White did on this job.
Results
The repair work to the fiberglass piping was completed over a Saturday and Sunday, and the system was restarted on Monday. Having a turnkey contractor like J.J. White enables Rowan to resolve their problems by making one phone call to the J.J. White offices, where everything from scheduling to startup can be coordinated. J.J.
