JJ White was chosen as the general contractor for the restoration and renovations of the Chapel of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. The Cathedral sits on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on the east side of Philadelphia’s Logan Circle. JJ White was a perfect fit to renovate the Cathedral because of our long standing tradition of working on numerous historically significant buildings in the Philadelphia area.
The more than 150 year old Cathedral required the utmost attention to detail and care to preserve its historic nature. Working on expensive materials such as antique Italian marble and historic paneling and flooring created challenges that JJ White’s experienced team was able to overcome. The Cathedral also still had to be open for normal church activities.
JJ White put together a plan for controlled protection of individual work areas and selectively completed tedious demolition work. JJ White also completed restoration and update work to replicate original wall surfaces prior to the re-installation of priceless artwork. Access to normal church activities was also a focus during this project as JJ White provided ingress, egress, and made accommodations to fit the Cathedral’s schedule.
The renovation and restoration was finished in 2007 and the Cathedral’s Chapel of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament continues to be one of the beautiful in the country, welcoming figures such as Pope Francis in 2015. The project is another in a long line of successful historic projects undertaken by JJ White Inc.
