Hand Safety Plan

MAKE A PLAN TO PROTECT YOUR HANDS

Our hands are one of the most important tools we have.

Hands continue to be one of the leading body parts often at risk for many tasks at J J White Inc.. Before every job, it’s a good idea to ask ourselves, “what aspects of this task could be dangerous to my hands”? Could I get cut? – or bruised? Are there sharp objects nearby? Will my hands be in the line of fire of this grinder or saw? Have I done this so many times that I don’t even think about a hand injury? Will I be handling chemicals? Could I mistakenly touch a hot surface? Will my hands be visible throughout the job? Could I pinch my hands between two surfaces? Are there any electrical hazards that I could touch?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Reports; 110,000 lost-time hand injuries annually, about 75% of all partial-disability workplace injuries involve the hands, 70 % of workers who experienced hand injuries were not wearing gloves, the remaining 30 percent wore gloves but the protection was inadequate.
