Same Stuff, Different Day Is Not the Way! Safety

Same Stuff, Different Day Is Not the Way!

IF “SAME STUFF…DIFFERENT DAY” IS THE DIAGNOSIS, THAT MAY BE A RECIPE FOR LOSS OF FOCUS

How can we avoid summer complacency from sinisterly creeping into our daily routine work and responsibilities?

Success in safety comes from a deliberate FOCUS “day in and day out” by each of us making sure we go home to our families the same way we walked through the gate. This takes much effort, a sincere humility, respect and appreciation for all the known and unknown hazards in our daily jobs and tasks. There were so many opportunities for each of us to become complacent throughout the year.  By practicing a little more focus on your job today, you are making a contribution to J J  White’s safety success story today, right now, in this moment.

We don’t have to be overly cautious to a point where we can’t perform our work, but we should always understand that avoiding hazards comes with focus, not by chance and not by going into “auto-pilot” mode when performing our routine daily tasks.  Just because we do routine tasks and become very good at them doesn’t mean that the hazards associated with the task go away! (Heat, pressure, steam, heights, electricity, uneven surfaces, energy is all around us)

Our motivation to do routine work may change or vary over time.  If the task is new to us, we should ask questions and seek solid, detailed directions from our supervisors and peers.  Make it your habit to help each other out. Get your sleep, eat well, exercise, stay hydrated, don’t rush, observe and pause to think about things. This is the time where we must FIGHT SUMMER COMPLACENCY and STAY FOCUSED!
