Have No Doubt & Always Keep An Eye Out
How can we use the awareness of our surroundings to prevent a serious incident from occurring?
How can we use the “awareness of our surroundings” to identify and prevent a serious incident from occurring?
We can use it as an Operator conducting Process Rounds:
Quality process rounds are a must! They help identify problems before they become too BIG. When doing rounds use your “process sense” to help you –
- Your eyes: to see if there is a leak, does the reactor paint look different, is piping and valves lined up correctly, is the pressure correct, are the amps correct
- Your ears: does the pump or compressor sound different, does the flow in the piping sound different, is the furnace running correctly
- Your nose: do you smell a hydrocarbon, or an electrical smell
- Your hands: does the pump feel different, is a line cold that’s not supposed to be, etc.
These are some of your senses that you use every day at work and at home!
Remember: If you see something, say something!
