Always insist on an isolation/blanking list

When is an Isolation/Blanking List required? 

A lockout/tag out (LOTO) program includes:

• Hardware – locks, cables, and lockboxes, to physically lockout hazardous energy;
• Tags to alert others that the energy should not be restored, and
• Procedures to ensure the safety of individuals servicing equipment

An important procedural requirement is documenting the specific equipment that was isolated on the Isolation/Blanking List.  Required information includes…

• The locations and description of equipment being isolated,
• The type of isolation device used,
• Information on blanks – if they are used
• Follow your Refineries Blanking and Tagging Procedures
