Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan
“By Failing to Prepare, you are preparing to Fail.” –Benjamin Franklin
To work safely and avoid injury or incident it is important to integrate safety into the preparation and execution of every task. Safety is not an add-on or simply a set of restrictive policies to be complied with. It has to be part of the planning and execution of everything we do.
Job planning is critical to safe execution. Before beginning work, it is important that everyone involved understands and agrees upon the scope of the work that is to be done.
Time needs to be taken to identify and thoroughly analyze the hazards that are present or may be encountered. Communication is the key to success. If you don’t know what to expect, or what hazards may exist, ask!
The work group needs to develop and implement hazard controls and determine PPE requirements.
If the work scope changes, stop and re-work your plan. The work must be performed according to the plan. All the time, every time!
