JJ White Mechanical & HVAC Teams Complete Major Installation at St. Joseph’s University Gillin Boathouse
The JJ White Mechanical and HVAC Teams recently completed a major upgrade at St. Joseph’s University’s Gillin Boathouse, enhancing the facility’s climate control capabilities with the installation of six state-of-the-art Split System Heat Pumps. These units now service both the St. Joe’s University and St. Joseph’s Prep training spaces, ensuring a comfortable environment year-round for athletes and staff alike.
The installation project, which spanned two phases, brought approximately 46 tons of cooling capacity to the boathouse’s workout facilities. The dual-circuit compressors in each of the SkilAire units provide highly efficient, staged heating and cooling, allowing the system to adapt to varying temperature needs throughout the day. This flexibility is particularly important as the training schedules for both the Prep and University teams can fluctuate based on seasons and events.
In addition to the new HVAC systems, JJ White also upgraded the control systems. The modernized controls offer an intuitive, on-site user interface, allowing staff to easily manage and adjust the temperature settings to maintain optimal conditions. This improvement ensures that the boathouse’s climate is always tailored to the specific needs of its users.
The work was completed in two phases to minimize disruptions to the training schedules of both St. Joseph’s Prep and St. Joseph’s University. The JJ White team coordinated closely with the facilities management to ensure that the installation process was as smooth and efficient as possible, aligning the project timeline with the busy calendar of athletic events and training sessions.
“We’re proud to have partnered with St. Joseph’s University and St. Joe’s Prep on this important project,” said JJ White Mechanical Group Vice President Charlie Mengle. “The upgraded HVAC system not only improves comfort for the athletes and staff, but it also enhances the overall energy efficiency of the facility, contributing to a better training environment and reducing operational costs.”
The Gillin Boathouse is home to both St. Joseph’s University’s and St. Joseph’s Prep’s crew teams. With the new, advanced HVAC system now in place, the facility is better equipped to support the rigorous physical demands of its users, from early-morning practices to intense training sessions. The project marks another milestone in JJ White’s commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable mechanical and HVAC solutions for educational and athletic facilities in the Philadelphia area.
